TL DR: I am looking for a good music player with superior sound, FLAC support that is usable for streaming from a NAS and shuffling through my complete collection without having to import it each time I want to use it. Therefore I’d appreciate your recommendations. So, my impression is that I haven’t found yet the best network music player. However, VOX does not seem to save the imported library (although the tracks are shown in the VOX window), but they have to be deleted and reimported each time the application is started to avoid numerous error messages, which is a bit annoying, VOX: Great design, superior sound (sounds better than Tomahawk in direct comparison). Also I’m not sure if there is a status bar integration for controling the player. So this could be it, but the application contains much more social stuff, I am not interested in, and thus my impression is that the music player is not the main focus of this application. Tomahawk: after a lenghty import procedure (creating a library of my music files), these are always available when starting the application.

After download Spotify music to MP3 on Mac, you can play Spotify music without using Spotify application for Mac. Then I could also shuffle (but only the tracks fo this album). iTunes, Tomahawk, Vox Player, Clementine, Nightingale, Quod Libet.
So far I always had to select a specifc album to be played. VLC: nice, versatile tool, can also play podcasts and radio, but does not shuffle natively through the complete collection. I am using a MB Air 2018 with Mojave (relatively new to it).Ĭurrently I am testing the following applications: I like to do this without having to create playlists first (just natively by selecting / importing the corresponding folder from my network / NAS device). My usual approach is to shuffle through my complete collection of currently 9000+ FLAC files (let’s call this „global shuffle“). I am currently looking for a good network music player to stream music from my NAS device (QNAP).
